Cherabie named ‘Let’s Stop HIV Together’ ambassador

Joseph Cherabie, MD, an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been named a clinical ambassador for the national Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign, which is led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The campaign aims to end the HIV epidemic in the U.S. by empowering communities, partners and health-care providers to reduce HIV stigma and promote HIV testing, prevention and treatment.

As a clinical ambassador, Cherabie plays a vital role in promoting the campaign among clinicians and raising awareness of the evidence-based resources available to health professionals working in HIV prevention and treatment.

Cherabie specializes in sexual health care, focusing on LGBTQ health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV, all within the lens of medical education. He mentors medical students, residents and fellows through his work with OUTmed at Washington University. Cherabie also serves as medical director of the Washington University St. Louis PrEP Clinic, associate medical director of the St. Louis County Sexual Health Clinic, and associate medical director of the St. Louis STI/HIV Prevention Training Center. He is also the principal investigator for Washington University’s Capacity Building Assistance Program, part of a CDC network that provides training, technical assistance and resources for the HIV prevention workforce.
