Rihanna Got Candid About the 'Almost Impossible' Balance Between Work & Motherhood
The hype surrounding Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show performance is undeniable. In fact, people are saying there will be a Rihanna concert on Sunday that happens to have some football surrounding it, and we are here for that RiRi stan energy. While fans were immediately excited upon hearing the news, Rihanna found it hard to agree immediately to do the show.
At a press conference to discuss the performance, the Fenty founder opened up about her struggle to find a work-life balance after becoming a parent. Rihanna and boyfriend A$AP Rocky welcomed a baby boy in May of 2022, and she was asked to do the performance just three months later. Talk about a crazy way to return to work after maternity leave!
“The balance is almost impossible because no matter how you look at it, work is always something that’s going to rob you of time with your child,” Rihanna said during the press conference. “That’s the currency now. The magnitude of how much it weighs when you make decisions on what you’re going to say yes to, it has to be worth it.”
Even though she is a Grammy-winning superstar (can’t relate), Rihanna’s work-life struggles are so relatable!
Ultimately, Rihanna decided that the performance and countless hours spent rehearsing were worth the “currency.” She even said that though it takes away time with her son, whose name has yet to be revealed, he is part of the reason she said yes.
“I feel like it was now or never, really,” she said in a Nov. 2022 interview with Extra. “There’s this weird sh*t that happens when you become a mom, that you just unleash or unlock other parts of your superpower, you feel like you can take on or you could do anything.”
Much to the dismay of fans, it has been seven years since RiRi has taken to the stage, but she said she was excited to take on this “challenge” that would “force her to get back onstage.”
According to sources, Rihanna’s little boy will watch her performance from the family’s box. That will certainly help A$AP’s goal of raising a “cool kid.”
“It’s important for me to do it this year,” the cool kid’s cool mom said at the press conference. “It’s important for representation, it’s important for my son to see that.”
These celebs have the fiercest pregnancy style, and we can’t stop staring.
