Madonna Celebrates Son David Banda’s 16th Birthday With Elaborate Backyard Party

Talk about a sweet 16! Madonna and son David Banda celebrated the teenager’s 16th birthday in style, depicted in photos the pop star shared on Instagram.

“I cannot believe you have grown into this young man! This artist. This athlete. This articulate and charismatic human,” the proud mom captioned a Tuesday slideshow of the teen through the years. “Who knew when I met you at Home of Hope Orphanage in Malawi, drinking coke out of a baby bottle and wearing no diaper that you would become this force of nature? Happy Sweet Sixteen! I’m so proud of you!”

Madonna adopted David from a Malawian orphanage in 2006 with then-husband Guy Ritchie. He is the third of the 63-year-old Madame X singer’s six children, three of whom were adopted from the same orphanage as David — Mercy James, 15, and nine-year-old twins Stella and Estere. The Queen of Pop also shares Lourdes, 24, with former partner Carlos Leon and 21-year-old Rocco with Ritchie.

The mom’s photos showed a glimpse of David’s birthday party, held the backyard of their new home — a multi-million dollar abode she purchased from singer The Weeknd earlier this year. The yard, complete with a gorgeous infinity pool, was decked out with a colossal balloon display spelling out David’s name.

“Sweet 16 in our new backyard!” Madonna captioned the carousel of photos. “So much to be grateful for!!”

Madonna’s Instagram account has featured her kids more frequently lately. Back in August, she shared a video of Stella and Estere’s 9th birthday party which looked like a blast. We hope Madge keeps the family snaps coming. We love to see it!
