Kate Hudson Is on a Mission to Get Back to Her Pre-Pregnancy ‘Fighting Weight’
Kate Hudson is ready to get back into her Fabletics spandex and hit the weights to drop 25 pounds and get back to her “fighting weight.” The actor and fitness lover declared in an Instagram post that she’s never been more determined to exercise, eat well and meditate as she is now, just months after giving birth to her daughter Rani Rose, whom she welcomed with beau Danny Fujikawa.
“The routine with our baby is getting more familiar, and I’m ready to start taking a little time in my day focusing on myself,” she captioned a photo of herself in workout attire. “For me that means health. Why? Because I wanna be around a long time for these three kiddos of mine.”
You’ve probably heard it a million times: exercise and a balanced diet are essential parts of a healthy lifestyle. But for new moms, the motivation to hit the mat shortly after childbirth may be quite low due to myriad factors like hormonal changes and sleep deprivation. That’s why it’s so important to let go of the expectation to “bounce back” after giving life to a brand-new human. Fitness pros Lisa Druxman of Fit4Mom and Dempsey Marks of PreGame Fit told SheKnows in December 2017 they suggest new moms ease into their postpartum fitness regimens by starting with more straightforward exercises (like holding plank position) and working their way up to more robust workout sessions (like training for a marathon).
“Your body has gone through a tremendous transformation in the time leading up to giving birth,” Marks said. “[It] has prepared for birth for more than nine months. So be gentle, start sensibly and build gradually.”
Of course, the only way you’re ever going to create a fitness routine that works for you is if you actually schedule the time to do it, something Hudson more than understands. “It is the most challenging thing in the world to balance kids and personal time,” she continued. “Let’s be honest, kids take the number one position, and it’s haaaaard to make time for yourself… I wanna do all this and keep up milk production, raise my kids, work everyday [sic], make time for my man, have girlfriend time and stay sane.”
Hudson clarified that part of the reason she’s so dedicated to getting in shape is that she’s about to film a new movie in the spring. While it’s great she’s set a goal (many, actually), remember her timeline might not be realistic for everyone and losing weight or having a picture-perfect life filled with social activities is in no way a competition. As cliché as it sounds, life’s all about balance.
So go easy on yourselves, moms. “Fighting weight” or not, you’re all damn rad.
