But the COLOUR scheme you use in decorating your home could have a huge impact on how relaxed you feel.
So now the most calming colour has now been revealed, you might consider giving your living room a lick of paint in that shade to get the most out of your down time.
New research shows from the University of Sussex shows that people feel calmest when surrounded by… a dark blue.
The World’s Favourite Colour Project, quizzed 26,000 participants about their feelings and emotions towards a range of specific colours
The study even found that their heart rates were significantly lower when in the presence of the relaxing hue.
While no specific shade was specified, a dark navy is believed to have the optimum effect.
John Haslam, managing director of paper manufacturer GF Smith, who commissioned the study, said: “The study underlined that colour is as much about substance as it is about beauty.
“The fascinating results and their relevance are shared in the report – inspiring the world to think differently about the role and value of colour in our lives.”
Other insights from the survey include the discovery that humans associate the colour green with the future, oranges and purples are said to evoke a sense of luxury, while deep reds and hot pinks are the shades of passion.
