These Colorado grocery stores, retail outlets and restaurants have coronavirus outbreaks

Each Wednesday, Colorado’s public health department updates its database of coronavirus outbreaks across the state, a list that’s dominated by nursing homes and other senior living facilities, as well as an increasing number of factories and plants, and correctional facilities.

Also included are a number of retail businesses open to the general public, including grocery stores, big-box outlets, restaurants and thrift stores. As of May 12, the state’s outbreak list includes 21 such locations, with nearly 130 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases between them.

This list, compiled from data provided by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, includes the Walmart in Aurora that was temporarily shut down by county health officials last month following an outbreak that claimed three lives.

It also includes the King Soopers store on Denver’s Capitol Hill, where the union this week announced an employee has died of COVID-19, though that fatality is not yet included in the state database.

Colorado’s public health department declares an outbreak when there are two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases in a facility within a 14-day period. The retail outlets included on this list are all classified as undergoing “active” outbreaks.
