Salt still contributes to the development of hypertension
About the ability of salt to affect blood pressure in the human body there was mixed opinions. Many scientists spoke about the fact that direct communication is not here. And all the salt promotes high blood pressure – Japanese scientists from the National Institute of basic biology has revealed the mechanism that proves that possibility.
In a press release on EurekAlert! the researchers reported that “the use of table salt (NaCl) contributes to hypertension development”. Thus hypertension is one of the major risk factors of cardiovascular diseases and death from stroke and heart attack worldwide.
After a series of experiments with mice, the researchers found which the physiological process contributes to the development of hypertension after the use of salt. According to them, the more the body receives sodium chloride (salt), the more sodium ions are concentrated in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It is through the sodium channels – protein structures in the cell membrane through which the cell receives the sodium ions.
All these processes contribute to the excitation of the sympathetic nervous system that regulates circulation, said the researchers.
According to scientific experts, almost 40% of the adult population aged 25 years and older suffer from hypertension. The danger of hypertension is that it begins as a dysfunction in the regulation of blood pressure, but then may contribute to the development of many serious diseases of internal organs and systems. Hypertension contributes to enlargement of the heart and ultimately, heart failure. In the blood vessels may expand or an aneurysm, which become vulnerable, and they often develop a blockage. Also hypertension contributes to the development of kidney failure, blindness and various cognitive impairment – decline in memory, intelligence and efficiency.
