Deaths from COVID-19 outbreaks in Colorado see smallest increase since April – The Denver Post

The number of outbreaks in Colorado fell for the second week in a row, and new cases and deaths linked to clusters grew by the smallest amount since tracking started.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment defines an outbreak as two or more cases from a common location or event. As of Wednesday, the state reported 177 outbreaks where the virus is believed to still be spreading, and 160 that had been resolved.

A week earlier, there were 194 active outbreaks and 129 resolved ones.

Statewide, 9,315 cases and 950 deaths are tied to outbreaks. Cases rose about 1.6% compared to last week, and deaths increased 2.8%. That’s the lowest rate of growth since the state health department first released outbreak data in mid-April.

The largest outbreaks were still ongoing, and 10 had more than 100 cases as of Wednesday:

  • Sterling Correctional Facility: 600 cases, three deaths
  • Van Cise-Simonet Detention Facility, Denver: 369 cases, 0 deaths
