Coronavirus in Colorado, April 23: A look at the latest updates on COVID-19

Gov. Jared Polis announced yesterday that the stay-at-home order will remain in place through Sunday night, switching to a “safer at home” plan on Monday when some businesses will reopen.

That change will shift the responsibility from the government to individuals to practice safe social distancing. Coloradans still need to wear masks, practice social distancing and work from home if possible. “Safer at home” will not be a grand reopening of the state, Polis said on Wednesday. Instead, it will be gradual.

As of Wednesday, the latest coronavirus case count stood at 508 confirmed deaths with 10,878 positive COVID-19 cases and 859 people currently hospitalized. Residents of nursing homes and other assisted living facilities now account for 64% of Colorado’s coronavirus-related deaths.
