Best supplements to combat ‘long-Covid’: Dr Chris recommends two essential vitamins

Symptoms, such as fatigue, may linger on following a COVID infection, for a really long time. Dr Chris shares two tips to overcome exhaustion. What are they?

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Dr Chris addressed the “long Covid” symptoms younger people are encountering.

The doctor explained fatigue can be “quite debilitating” and that it can “drag on for a few months”.

Anybody suffering from post-viral fatigue is urged by Dr Chris “to rest” – “you’ve got to rest,” he said.

Alongside rest, and drinking “plenty of fluids”, Dr Chris recommends two supplements.

The first one is Co-enzyme Q10 and the other is vitamin B supplements, as both help with energy levels.

When it comes to selecting Co-enzyme Q10 (available in pharmacies and health stores), “quality counts” assured Dr Chris – advising people to go for the “most pricey one”.

Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

Web MD explained it’s an “important vitamin-like substance required for the proper function of chemical reactions in the body”.

Helping to “provide energy to cells”, CoQ10 also has antioxidant activity.

ScienceDirect cited work conducted by a research team from the University of Nottingham.

They explored the efficacy of CoQ10 on fatigue by examining an analysis on the literature surrounding the subject.

Delving into the data of 16 studies, 10 of them “showed significant beneficial effects of CoQ10 supplementation on fatigue status”.

From this, the researchers concluded CoQ10 “could alleviate fatigue”.

However, the researchers recognised that “more clinical trials with adequate sample size and with sufficient follow-up periods are needed”.

B vitamins

The University of California Berkeley School of Public Health states “B vitamins help convert dietary energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP)”.

People suffering from an illness, such as COVID, may be deficient in vitamin B, hence why energy levels would be low.

The NHS explained “there are many different types of vitamin B”, such as B1, B6 and B12.

Vitamin B1 is known as thiamin, which helps to “release energy from food” and to keep “the nervous system healthy”.

Vitamin B, known as riboflavin, also releases energy from food, and helps keep the “skin and eyes healthy”.

In fact, all B vitamins help release energy, which is probably why Dr Chris recommends talking a vitamin B supplement.

Other ‘long Covid’ symptoms may include a persisting cough, although it may not be as bad as it once was.

And your sense of taste or smell may still be affected, added Dr Chris.

If you’re unsure whether you have coronavirus, the three main symptoms of the disease are a new, continuous cough, a high temperature, and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
