Beyonce opens up about emergency caesarean after one of her twins' hearts 'paused a few times'

Beyonce has opened up about her “extremely difficult” pregnancy and the circumstances of the birth of ther twins Rumi and Sir Carter by emergency caesarean section.

The pregnancy was the Formation star’s second pregnancy after she had daughter Blue Ivy in January 2012 and it came as a surprise in 2017 as she had been lined up to perform at Coachella.

She postponed that performance to the following year and her film Homecoming, which has just landed on streaming service Netflix, charts the run up to that event.

In the film she reveals her body “went through even more than I knew it could” during her pregnancy as she experienced preeclampsia, a pregnancy-related medical condition which can result in high blood pressure among other symptoms and can prove extremely dangerous.

“I was 218 pounds the day I gave birth. I had an extremely difficult pregnancy,” says Beyonce in the film. “I developed toxemia, preeclampsia.”

One of her twins’ heartbeats had “paused a few times” in the womb which resulted in her undergoing an emergency caesarean on June 12, 2017.

Thankfully the twins are doing well. Beyonce went on to perform at Coachella in 2018, just ten months after their birth.

She has also just released an album to coincide with the release of the film.
