A Psychologist is Taking Over the Bergdorf Goodman Salon
Carol Nappi, a former customer of the John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman, has taken over the space.
It will now be called The Salon at Bergdorf Goodman.
Nappi, a former psychiatric therapist and philanthropist, has signed a lease through her corporate entity, The Salon LLC. Her plans aren't yet finalized, but changes are certainly in the works, and Nappi is planning for each of the 35 to 40 chairs to be fully equipped with an iPad and charging station.
"I was a client in the previous salon for many years and an opportunity came up where I could go through the list I had been keeping for a number of years of where I'd like to see a difference," Nappi said. She'd been going to the salon for between eight and 10 years, but wasn't a client of Barrett's, she said. His salon has moved to East 57th Street.
It's likely the new space will incorporate a therapist's flair for wellness — Nappi describes early plans as "providing a mind, body and spirit" experience alongside the usual services — like hair and nails.
She's never run a salon business before, but said The Salon will remain open as it undergoes renovations. Thom Filicia is handling interior design, and the space is expected to be completed this fall.
"Every salon I went to there was always a name," Nappi said, noting that there will not be one star hairdresser, but a group of talented hair stylists. "But I always felt that everyone had something to offer."
