UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre Shared an Abs Challenge You Can Do at Home
Abs exercises are having a moment among celebrities this week. Yesterday, for instance, soccer legend David Beckham highlighted his ab roller routine while working out shirtless in his soccer club’s Miami gym.
Now, another iconic athlete—retired UFC legend Georges St-Pierre, who’s been a little busy with his role as Batroc the Leaper in the just released Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+—is touting a similarly effective core-torching movement to his followers in his latest “challenge of the week” post. (St-Pierre’s previous challenges have included a 10-second balance test, and a 20-second L-Sit that you only need two chairs to do.)
“This is a tough one for core strength,” St-Pierre says, adding that it works best on a hard, smooth, preferably wooden floor, and while wearing socks to ensure a fluid movement. Keeping his legs and arms straight, St-Pierre bends over, then slowly pushes his feet back until he’s in a plank-style position. Then he reverses the movement, and returns to a standing position. That’s basically it—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
“You’re going to touch your nose to the ground, and come back up. You aren’t allowed to put your knees or elbows on the floor,” he says. St-Pierre also offers some basic advice: Make sure you round—but don’t arch—your back or you’ll collapse on the floor at the bottom of the movement.

It shouldn’t take long for your abs to feel the burn. Just in case that’s too easy, however, there are a number of ways to modify the basic plank exercise to give your core more of a challenge, including simple progressions such as the plank reach, stir-the-pot, and body saw.
Give them a try—after all, celebrities shouldn’t be the only ones with six-packs to show off this summer.
