This Photo Of Jessica Simpson’s Newborn Baby Is Stirring Up Major Controversy

ICYMI, Jessica Simpson finally shared her first photo of new daughter Birdie Mae sleeping on Easter Sunday. And while thousands of fans swooned over the tiny bundle of cuteness in the comments, many rushed to mum-shame the singer as well.

Jessica likely thought nothing of posting a sweet picture of Birdie sleeping in her adorable Easter dress, but many fans were quick to point out that the baby shouldn’t be lying on her stomach, with comments like “Not to be a jerk, but that baby should be back sleeping.”

While Jessica is no stranger to public shaming, it’s worth noting that her fans do have a point. Placing a baby on their stomach can lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (unexplained death that usually occurs during sleep, a.k.a. SIDS), and guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics advise new parents to position babies on their backs to decrease the risk of SIDS.

However, according to Jessica’s mum, Tina Simpson, Birdie was only sleeping on her stomach for a quick photo-op. Clapping back at the mom-shamers, she commented, “We stood over her and placed her in that position for a picture only! Enjoy the preciousness! Happy Easter.”

Clearly, many people found the photo upsetting, but several fans were quick to come to Jessica’s defence, reminding fans that Birdie was the star’s third child, so she knows what she’s doing and people should “let her be.”
