Jenna Dewan’s Fiancé Steve Kazee Shares the Cutest Callum Pic & an Uplifting Message for Parents
As parents, we talk a lot about wanting to give everything we can to our children. And, yeah, we sometimes complain about what we’ve had to sacrifice for them (sleep, how I miss thee!). But we don’t often talk about what our children give to us in return. On Sunday, Jenna Dewan’s fiancé Steve Kazee wrote about what his baby boy has done for him in his four short months of life, and it’s exactly what we needed to hear to get through this week.
“This little heart,” the actor and singer wrote on Instagram, celebrating baby Callum’s 4-month birthday a week early with a deadly cute photo. “It lifts mine every day when it sinks too low. It gives me strength to fight for a better future for all the little hearts out there.”
Yes, this. People who don’t have children absolutely can and should fight for a better future, of course. But once you’ve put another life into this world, you’ve got just a little more motivation in your engine to do so.
“It gives me love to heal my wounds so that I am strong enough to weather the trials,” Kazee continued of his son’s heart (in case you worried he was calling his son “it”). “It gives me peace to ease my worried mind when it feels like all is lost.”
To this we must note that little Callum must be an amazing baby, because “peace” isn’t what most people feel about their infants. Though maybe we should flip our perspective on those late-night feedings and appreciate them this way.
“It gives me perspective so that I may see the world clearly and as it truly is instead of what it seems to be,” he said. This is a great way of looking at the way having a baby makes you focus on the present moment — you’ve got to meet their immediate needs so frequently — which is exactly what the practice of mindfulness teaches people to do.
“It gives me hope that our best days are ahead of us,” Kazee went on — and oh man, in 2020 we could all use some of that. “It gives me laughter when I need it and tears when I can’t fathom how much I love it. It gives me everything and I promise to give it my everything to make sure that it beats as loud and shines as bright as this little heart can.”
Kazee has made it a habit to post poetic notes to his son on Instagram over the past few months.
“I hope you see this someday and know that your daddy loves you better than anything in this world and that, to him, you are the brightest light in this darkest hour,” he wrote on Callum’s 2-month birthday.
If he and Dewan ever want to quit showbiz, they should definitely start a line of inspirational baby books and gear.
