President-elect Joe Biden has named Jennifer Psaki as his White House press secretary. Psaki is no stranger to the White House, having previously served as Barack Obama’s White House communications director.
Psaki’s credentials are impressive. As noted by CNBC, Psaki is currently in charge of the confirmations team during the Biden-Harris transition. In addition to serving as Obama’s communications director, during his administration, she also served as State Department spokesperson, deputy White House communications director, as well as deputy White House press secretary.
Psaki also worked for the Obama-Biden campaign in 2008, working as a traveling press secretary and later as a senior advisor in 2012. During John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign, Psaki served as deputy press secretary. Psaki also worked with former Congressman Joe Crowley as his communications director and was a spokesperson at the 2006 Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Additionally, Psaki has served as the VP for communications and strategy at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and has worked as a contributor for CNN. Psaki is married with two children and lives in Virginia with her family.
Jennifer Psaki is excited about her new role
Psaki is joining a seven-member senior communications team comprised entirely of women. Former President Barack Obama spoke highly of Psaki when she was appointed as communications director in 2015. “I fully trust Jen — and I am thrilled she’s agreed to come back to the White House as communications director,” he said (via CTPost).
Psaki also received a ringing endorsement in 2011 from then-White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer. “There is no smarter or better person in politics today than Jen Psaki,” he told Politico.
Psaki is excited to take on her new role. “Honored to work again for @JoeBiden, a man I worked on behalf of during the Obama-Biden Admin as he helped lead economic recovery, rebuilt our relationships with partners (turns out good practice) and injected empathy and humanity into nearly every meeting I sat in,” she tweeted.
