Hope Solo Suffered a Miscarriage of Twins: ‘I Was Hours From Dying’
Sharing her story. Hope Solo suffered a miscarriage of twins in early 2018.
“The doctor said I was hours from dying,” the Olympic soccer player, 37, told Elle of her ectopic pregnancy for her July cover story. “They ended up having to remove my fallopian tube.”
Stars Who Struggled to Conceive
The athlete spoke at the United States Soccer Federation presidential election shortly after her miscarriage. “That speech took a lot,” Solo said. “Even before all that, it would have taken courage.”
Solo announced her candidacy on Facebook in December 2017, writing, “I know exactly what U.S. Soccer needs to do, I know exactly how to do it, and I possess the fortitude to get it done. I have always been willing to sacrifice for what I believe in and I believe there is no greater sacrifice then fighting for equal opportunity, integrity and honesty, especially in an organization like the USSF that could give so much more to our communities across the nation.”

The Washington native added: “The only way for American soccer to propel itself on the world’s stage is by creating a culture that is diverse and by shedding a mentality that is no longer acceptable.”
She and her husband, Jerramy Stevens, tied the knot in 2012, and Solo opened up to Elle about the ups and downs of their relationship. The former NFL player, 39, first told the goalkeeper he loved her in 2011 and since she “didn’t know what to say,” Solo said, “‘F–k you,’” and didn’t talk to Stevens for a year.
Stunning Female Athletes
Once they spoke again, “everything just fell to the side,” the Solo: A Memoir of Hope author said. She decided to marry the athlete two months later. The night before their ceremony, Solo and Stevens’ “two asshole brothers” got into an argument, but since the Olympian had a bloody elbow when the cops arrived, her then-fiancé was arrested.
The former Seattle Seahawks player was released without charges and the couple tied the knot the next day, feeling “triumphant.”
