Hangover cure to get rid of your headache and sickness fast, according to doctor
For many people Christmas, and the lead-up to the holiday, entails a lot of socialising – which can mean copious amounts of food and booze.
As well as catching up with friends over dinner and drinks, many also have work Christmas parties to attend.
But all the fun and socialising inevitably has a horrible consequence – the hangover the next day.
Splitting headaches, sickness, dizziness and dehydration can all make you feel like it wasn’t worth it.
Daily Star Online has picked the brains of NHS Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of CosmedicsUK, who has shared his best secrets to getting rid of a hangover fast.

Firstly, the doctor recommends drinking water between alcoholic beverages, as this will “not only help with your hangover the following day, but will do wonders for your teeth too as it rinses away any sugar and acid left in the mouth”.
Dr Perry, who has previously appeared on This Morning and Good Morning Britain, recommends eating foods containing potassium the next day.
This is because drinking alcohol blocks the production of a hormone that helps your body hold on to water, which leads to dehydration and the loss of electrolytes.
Try eating bananas, oranges, apricots, grapefruit, honeydew and cantaloupe melon, leafy greens, spinach, broccoli, potatoes, mushroom and pease, which will “lessen the hangover and replenish the loss of electrolytes making you feel better quicker”.

Dr Ross also recommends a healthy dose of Vitamin C as a hangover cure.
He told Daily Star Online: “Having a healthy dose of Vitamin C in your system before and after drinking may help to prevent or reduce the severity of hangovers so think about incorporating some veg such as Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, Green and red peppers or drink some freshly squeezed orange juice or tomato juice before the party and the following day.”
As well as taking some paracetamol, Dr Perry says you should think about heading outdoors to get some fresh air.
He added: “A walk outside is a better option than over exerting yourself in the gym as this can just make you feel more dehydrated and worsen the banging head.”

You may want to reach for comfort food laden with carbs and sugar, but Dr Perry warns these might make you feel worse.
He explained: “Instead, reach for the fruit bowl or opt to have a bowl of porridge with honey and banana to try and replenish some of the nutrients your body may have lost.”
For example, instead of a bacon sandwich, the GP recommends a bagel with cream cheese and tomato, which has “decent calories yet more nutritious and will help with the pesky headache”.
Or, if you’re a fan of smoothies, they are a great way of getting back the nutrients your body needs.
Dr Perry said: “Keep it green and pack in spinach, cucumber, and celery with plenty of ice to aid hydration.”
Another tip is to add some apple cider vinegar to your food and drink, which can “help to restore your body’s PH level as it becomes more acidic after drinking alcohol, and helps to bring your PH back to a more normal level”.
Keep in mind alcohol should be consumed in moderation, and not on a regular basis.
