Experts find the ‘sweet spot’ for sex duration – and it’s shorter than you think
Is sex only really amazing when it’s described as a marathon session? Is the only way to really please a woman to spend hours at it? Is sex only really ever good if it's all night long or do quickies suffice?
These are a few questions many may have when it comes to the duration of sex.
According to experts, sex that lasts less than five minutes is considered premature ejaculation. So even if five minutes may seem too short for some, it could be deemed satisfactory to others.

When it comes to the “perfect” time or rather the “sweet spot” for sex duration, what should we all be aiming for?
How long should sex last for?
The perfect duration of sex is between three and 13 minutes, according to research.
Penn State Erie researchers Eric Corty and Jenay Guardiani conducted a survey of 50 full members of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research to determine the sweet spot.
The defined ranges of intercourse activity times included "adequate,” from three to seven minutes, “desirable,” from seven to 13 minutes, “too short” from one to two minutes and “too long” up to 30 minutes.

“A man’s or woman’s interpretation of his or her sexual functioning as well as the partners relies on personal beliefs developed in part from society’s messages, formal and informal,” the researchers said.
They added: ”Unfortunately, today’s popular culture has reinforced stereotypes about sexual activity.
“Many men and women seem to believe the fantasy model of large penises, rock-hard erections and all-night-long intercourse.”
“This seems a situation ripe for disappointment and dissatisfaction,” added lead author Eric Corty, associate professor of psychology.
“With this survey, we hope to dispel such fantasies and encourage men and women with realistic data about acceptable sexual intercourse, thus preventing sexual disappointments and dysfunctions.”
A big misconception is that most women are after a lengthy sex session, however this is not the case.
Despite it taking women around 20 minutes to orgasm as opposed to men who only need around five minutes, deep thrusting for long periods of time will do more pain than pleasure for most women.
A study published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy in 2017 found that only 18% of women said intercourse alone can make them climax.
The other 82% of women require clitoral stimulation which has nothing to do with marathon-long sex sessions.
“Plus, too much in-and-out action can make a woman dry and cause her pain, says sex therapist and author of Becoming Cliterate, Laurie Mintz.
