Heres How You Can Maintain a Healthy Diet While Working From Home
Did you know that World Health Day is celebrated every 7th of April? Some people don’t even know that such a day exists!
The 2020 health crisis definitely changed our outlook on different matters. Being locked up at home for a couple of months allowed us to reflect on our lives and value the things that are really important to us. This new perspective has, in a manner of speaking, changed our lives forever. For those who now work from home—a trend that was heightened by the lockdown—eating healthy might have become a challenge, but these few tips will work in your favor.
From now on, try to dedicate your time to building a healthier version of yourself – a person who invites new challenges and opportunities. With that vision in mind, here are a couple of tips to help you improve your health.
1. Eat Real Food
Now don’t come at us saying “all food is real food”. No. All food is not real food. Yes, we’re talking about the piles of junk food you have hidden away in your pantry. We realize that locking yourself up at home for the sake of working is pretty boring.
Yes, we know there is such a thing as “bored eating”. And yes, we know you’ve never gotten the opportunity to enjoy an unhealthy snack while in the middle of an important meeting. But, the biggest advantage you have now is that most of your meals are home-cooked. As such, leaning towards nutritious food will help you increase your energy levels and your productivity, and it will help keep your weight in check.
2. Portion Your Meals
Remember those science classes back in middle school when you’d studied about balanced diets? It might be time to dig back into your memories now. Or, a simple Google search will do, too. Your body needs its required measures of proteins, carbohydrates, dairy, and fats to be healthy.
If you’re having a hard time figuring out how much of each you should be eating, follow this simple rule. Fill half of your plate with vegetables, one-quarter with carbohydrates, and the remaining quarter with proteins. In each meal, you should try to incorporate a little dairy, as well. If you’re not a milk person, yogurt and cheese are great substitutes.
3. Have Fixed Meal Timings
Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you can eat whenever you’d like to. As a matter of fact, to stay healthy, you must maintain each day as a normal working day. That means you have to ensure that you do not skip meals and have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the proper time. And remember, no food after 9 pm.
If you work from 9 am to 5 pm every day, the gaps between meals can be quite long. As such, it is recommended that you store some snacks for yourself. Some healthy snacking options include nuts, fruits, and boiled or steamed items.
