Hilary Duff Just Shared The Most Intimate Video Of Her Daughter Banks’ Birth
Hilary Duff has posted plenty of adorable photos and videos of her five-month-old daughter Banks since her birth. But she may have just topped them all with this incredible post-birth video she shared to Instagram this morning.
In it, Hilary is sitting in a mini, inflatable pool, which means she had a water birth with Banks. She’s holding the tiny newborn to her chest, while her boyfriend, Matthew Koma, sits at her side outside the pool. The crazy part comes when Banks reaches both her arms out toward her for a hug. Hilary leans down and they share their first mum-daughter embrace. You can hear people in the video exclaiming how wild it is that the newborn was able to reach out to her mum only moments after her birth.

Hilary said in the caption that she wasn’t sure she’d share the video since it was such a personal moment. “It was so absolutely lovely and rewarding (and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged …for the first time, In my mind I like to believe that she was saying good job mum. Go team go. We did it. Together,” Hilary wrote.
She went on to say that Matt provided a “calm strength” throughout the birth, that her mum and sister Hayley were there to cheer her on, and that her first child, Luca, 7, was downstairs playing with Legos during the birth.

Hilary didn’t give any details about why she chose to have a water birth at home, but some mums choose this option as it offers a warm bath environment for labour. The heated water may also increase circulation, making contractions more efficient, according to the American Pregnancy Association.
In this video, it certainly looks like a magical birth experience. In the caption, Hilary said time has been flying since that day. “I cannot believe this day was only 5 months ago!! It seems like B has been here with us all along. The time is already going so fast..she tried avocado yesterday!” Hilary wrote. “Anyway… feeling blessed for this full hectic life and all the people in it. Happy 5 months Banks (oh and thanks for quitting colic) that was a doozy.”
It’s good to hear the new mama and baby are doing so well and enjoying the first few months! That hug was a great way to kick off their bond.
